The argument can be made that a refusal to discern, especially in the areas of vital doctrine, is among the most unloving things in all the world. If we do not discern even the most important things, the gospel itself will disappear, and thus souls that should hear the turth will not hear it. As it is unloving to fail to properly discipline a child, so it is unloving to fail to discern truth from error and right from wrong.
