Passover: The Lamb of God

I.  Passover:  The historical event.  (Exodus 12; Exodus 1:8-16)

     A.  God gave instructions for the Passover to the Israelites.

          1.  Nisan will be the beginning of months to the Jewish people.  (Ex. 12:2)

          2.  A lamb was to be examined.  (Ex. 12:3-5)

          3.  A lamb was to be sacrificed.  (Ex. 12:6)

          4.  The lamb's blood had to be applied.  (Ex. 12:7)

          5.  The lamb was to be roasted and eaten.  (Ex. 12:8-11)

     B.  God had a judmental and redemptive purpose for the Passover.

II.  Passover:  The celebration during the days of Messiah.  (Matthew 26:17-30)

III.  Passover:  Its fulfillment.  (John 18-19)

     A.  Jesus was examined.  (Esp. during the final week of His earthly life as the people, the disciples, the Pharisees and leaders of the Jews, Pilate, and Herod all examined Him and found Him to be without fault.

     B.  Jesus was sacrificed.  (Matt. 27:45-50)

     C.  Jesus' sacrifice must be applies through faith.

     D.  Jesus had to be eaten.  (John 6:53)

          "Here Jesus is using eating and drinking as symbols of a faith which casts itself totally upon Him for redemption from sin.  Unless you fully take of Christ, and reject all hope of earning heaven through your own goodness, you will have no life in you."
