Boasting of Personal Holiness; Blaspheming God

True Knowledge; True Assurance

Apr 27, 2014

Series: True Knowledge; True Assurance | Category: 1, 2, 3 John | Scripture: 1 John 1:10–1:10 | Tags: Fellowship, Sermons, Lordship, John, Discernment, Sanctification

Consider Acts 5:1-10 as an illustration of lying to the Holy Spirit; i.e., lying to God, and what a serious matter this is.  We conclude then, that to call God a liar is certainly a blasphemous offense.  He not only tells the truth, but is truth.

I.  The sinner's false statement.  (1 John 1:10a)

"If we say we have not sinned."

II.  The sinner's blasphemous belief and words.  (1 John 10b)

"we make him [i.e., God] a liar"

III.  The sinner's sad state.  (1 John 10c)

"and his word is not in us."
