Series: Correcting the Confusion Surrounding Spiritual Gifts | Category: Spiritual Gifts | Scripture: 1 Corinthians 14:29–14:33 | Tags: Doctrine, Sermons, Holy Spirit, Spiritual Gifts, Corinthians

The order:

1.  No more than two or three prophets were to speak in any one meeting of the church.

2.  The other prophets or those with the gift of discernment were to "weigh what was said" or "test what was said."

3.  New revelation was to take precedence over something old that was already being spoken.

4.  The prophets were never to speak at the same time or over each other.

5.  The prophets were to remain always in control of their speech.

6.  All things done in the church gathering are to reflect the character of God.

I.  An order for the use of the gift of prophecy.  (1 Cor. 14:29-31a)

     A.  No more than three prophets were to speak in any one meeting.  (14:29a)

     B.  All prophecies were to be tested.  (14:29b)

     C.  New prophecies were to take precedence over the old.  (14:30)

     D.  Only one person is to speak at any one time.  (14:31a)

II.  An object for the use of the gift of prophecy.  (1 Cor. 14:31b)

     A.  The church is to be informed through the prophecy.

     B.  The church is to be encouraged through the prophecy.

III.  An orderly ability for the use of the gift of prophecy.  (1 Cor. 14:32)

IV.  An outcome designed for the use of all spiritual gifts.  (1 Cor. 14:33a)

"For God is not a God of confusion but of peace."  Christian worship is to remind people of the character of the God who is worshiped.  Therefore, all so-called worship that lacks peace is not worship at all, but is something that denigrates God rather than exalting Him.
