Mar 8, 2015

| Scripture: Job 28:12–28:28 | Tags: Sermons, Discernment, Wisdom

Wisdom is the ability to take the Word of God known and properly apply it to the situations of life.

I.  The manifestation of man's wisdom.  (Job 28:1-11)

     A.  Man has the ability to mine the earth's wealth, but wisdom is not found in the minerals.  (28:1-2)

     B.  Man has the ability to search into the depths of the sea, but wisdom is not found in the sea.  (28:3-4)

     C.  Man has the ability to discover the treasures of the earth, but wisdom is not found in the earth's treasures.  (28:5-10)

     D.  Man has the ability to avoid many natural disasters, but wisdom is not found in the avoidance of these.  (28:11)

II.  Wisdom is not found in the seas.  (Job 28:14)

III.  Wisdom cannot be found with men.  (Job 28:13, 21)

IV.  Wisdom cannot be bought.  (Job 28:13, 15-19)

     A.  No single precious stone is as valuable as wisdom.  (28:19)

     B.  Man cannot imagine the value of wisdom.  (28:13)

     C.  All the riches of the earth are of less value than is wisdom.  (28:14-19)

V.  Widsom is found with God.  (Job 28:23)

Note that true wisdom is hidden from sinful man.  (28:20-22)

     A.  God is omniscient.  (28:24)

     B.  God is the Creator.  (28:25-27)

     C.  God is infinite.

VI.  Wisdom for man is to fear God.  (Job 28:28)

     A.  The fear of the Lord is wisdom.  (See Prov. 9:10)

     B.  The fear of the Lord encourages a departure from evil which shows understanding.  Why is this wise?

          1.  It will keep you from guitl, and the agony of soul associated therewith.

          2.  It will build up your home.

          3.  It will give you a pure witness in a sinful world.

Consider Colossians 2:3.
