I.  God gives a suitable helper.  (Gen. 2:18-22)

     A.  No other creation of God could replace the woman.  (2:19-20)

     B.  Woman is not a slave, but is a completer.  (2:18)

     C.  God presented the woman to man.  (2:22)

II.  God established a unity of relationship.  (Gen. 2:21-25)

     A.  Unity is established through the operation of God.  (2:21-22)

     B.  Unity is established though the commitment and communion of the couple.  (2:23-25)

          1.  Marital unity was designed by God to be a complete unity.

          2.  Marital unity is a fact, but also a process.

          3.  Marital unity requires maximum effort.

          4.  Marital unity is formed through a breaking of old ties.

          5.  Marital unity is found only in those who remain together.

          6.  Marital unity is shameless.

III.  God has a three-fold purpose for marital unity.

     A.  God created Eve from Adam to be able to redeem man and woman through the one Man, Jesus Christ.

     B.  God ordained marriage in order to illustrate Christ's relationship with His church.

     C.  Marital unity is an illustration of the Trinity.
